Meditation For Weight Loss - Part 1

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Beautiful Meditation SceneryHow do you see yourself? When you wake up in the morning and go to the washroom, does the reflection show you something you are comfortable seeing, or do you start to feel insignificant because of how you look? Do you feel as if you are over weight and that no matter what you do, it never seems to go away? Most people don’t feel comfortable with themselves, and it can cause them to have low self-confidence. However, one of the primary reasons why it is hard to see any changes in the physical body is because people constantly think negative thoughts about themselves, and constantly re-enforce that this is who they are day in and day out. The negative thoughts that we think about ourselves soon become subconscious and become a part of who we think we are. We have become conditioned to feel a certain way whenever we look at ourselves, and a lot of emotions start arising which further creates more negative thoughts. It is actually a constant cycle of emotions and thoughts that tend to rule us. Because of this, we shut down any room for growth within ourselves, and no matter what weight loss diet or exercise program we try, it will not work for us they way we want. Most of the time, no real changes occur and we are left miserable. This is why I believe meditation for weight loss is a very important practice that one should implement in their daily routine if they want to start seeing some real growth. This is probably one of the best kept secrets that not a lot of weight loss gurus will tell you about. Either because they don’t think it is that important, or because they just don’t know about it’s effect on weight loss.

What is meditation and how can it help me lose weight you may ask? Meditation is a state of awareness where you literally become one with the object of contemplation. Now let’s see what that means. First of all, when you first start to meditate, you will notice that your mind is constantly wandering. You may start to think about your next appointment, or what someone said to you the other day which hurt you, or what you will cook for dinner. Along with all the thought images in your mind which are constantly appearing, there is also this inner chat box which is constantly playing like a tape recorder. It just never shuts up. And most of the time, it is useless chatter which has absolutely nothing that will help you with growing as a person. They are usually thoughts and voices of limitations which keep you in your current state of affairs. They are thoughts about what has happened in the past, or what will happen in the future. Now how can anyone move forward in life, if they are constantly thinking about their past? This is EXACTLY what is holding you back.

Now you may be saying, “Oh, but my thoughts are important to me, they keep me company, and without them I will be bored”. Or you may say, “thoughts aren’t bad, they allow us to plan and without them we wouldn’t be able to do anything, and be immobilized”. Actually, you’re right. Thoughts aren’t bad at all. They are very useful and help us to direct our lives and also give us the ability to do things and take action. However, did you know that contemporary psychology says that 99% of the thoughts we think throughout the day are repetitive? And another thing is that most of those thoughts that we think are actually self-limiting and even self-destructive. Thoughts aren’t bad things, they are natural, but it’s negative thoughts, or repetitive negative thoughts that are useless. When we think about the past or the future and are creating realities within our minds that are destructive in nature either towards ourselves, or to others, then we are actually holding ourselves back from growing. This is why when we adopt a meditation practice, it helps us to calm the mind, start thinking more positively, and ultimately change our negative beliefs that we hold about ourselves and others. By meditating, we will be able to become our ideal selves, and be will be able to reach our true potential. When we no longer hold on to thoughts that don’t serve us, we will be able to reach our weight loss goals faster than we could ever imagine since the mind will direct the body and constantly fuel it with growth thoughts. We now know in the field of mind-body medicine, that the mind has a direct influence on how the body is shaped, and so when you get a hold of your mind, you can literally manifest your ideal body. As you think, so shall you become! This is not airy, fairy, imaginary stuff, but a science. Your thoughts are what structure your physical body, literally. Stay tuned for part 2!

Quick Weight Loss Diet

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Looking for a quick way to lose weight with a diet that is actually effective? A quick weight loss diet can really benefit you if you really don’t have a lot of time because of a special event or occasion of some sort. By no means should anyone do this for long-term because weight loss is not just about a quick fix, but about permanent lasting changes. So this should be used only when you are really tight for time.

So let’s just say you have 2 weeks until an important occasion. For that 1 week you don’t want to drastically change your diet, but gradually introduce certain foods into your diet, and take away others which are causing the weight loss problems in the first place. The reason is because if you change your diet too quickly, you could fall ill. Your body adapts to change gradually so it’s best to take it a bit slowly at first and then go more intense. But if you think about it, 2 weeks is pretty quick nonetheless if you ask me. So for the first few days you would stop eating, and drinking all sodas, cakes, chips and other processed foods. So set goals for yourself. Day 1 you make it a goal to reduce sodas. Day 2 make it a goal to cut all cakes, chips and cookies. Day 3 you can cut out all other processed foods. This is a great way to start your quick weight loss diet.

For the next 3 days on your quick weight loss diet, you do a detox diet where you are only eating fresh fruits and vegetables and nuts throughout the day. You may think that this is not going to fill you, or give you enough energy, but believe me, it WORKS. When is the last time you tried eating 10-20 servings of fruits and vegetables and freshly squeezed juice? It really does fill you up, and after a few days you will actually have MORE energy than you had before you actually started the detox diet. You never know unless you try, so don’t give up just because you may not believe it, or because it goes against anything you’ve ever been taught. If everyone followed the norm, then there would be no innovation and evolution in the world. You want to be different. You want RESULTS that actually show.

Now after 4 days or so on the detox diet, if you have the will power, which I’m sure you do, then you can do the juice fast. This fast involves drinking freshly squeezed or juiced juice, all day long. You don’t have anything but fruit and vegetable juice all day long. And make sure not to drink the store bought juice because those are just loaded with sugar and other preservatives. You want to buy your fruits and vegetables in advances, juice them, and drink as much as you want all day long. At this phase you don’t eat any nuts either. You can drink herbal teas if you like though such as green tea which has proven to promote weight loss.

If you really don’t want to do the juice fast as a part of the quick weight loss diet, then just continue doing the fresh fruits and vegetables detox diet until the day of the special occasion. By then you will have lost more than enough weight and you will be happy with the results.

Again, this quick weight loss diet is not for the long run, but for the short term, especially if you are short on time. But one thing that is really great about this also, is that it is not just good for weight loss. When you do these detox diets and juice fasts, they are also great for health purposes. You can prevent many diseases and even get rid of any you may have now. You will start to experience life fully and will start to appreciate life for the beauty that it is. After all, isn’t that what the ultimate goal is?

Exercise For Weight Loss

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

If anyone has ever told you that exercise for weight loss is not necessary, then they couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Although you COULD lose weight without any exercise program whatsoever, and just by reducing your caloric intake, it isn’t the most effective approach possible.  If you really want to see results quick then you should incorporate some form of exercise with your weight loss regimen.  Diet alone can only get you so far, and when you start exercising regularly, you add benefits that are unprecedented such as increased metabolism and disease prevention.  You will also feel like you have a lot more energy throughout the day which will further help you in achieving your weight loss goals.

One form of exercise for weight loss that ANYONE can do, is walking.  I don’t care if you don’t have time for anything else, but if you don’t have time for walking, then I know you’re just making excuses!  Walking alone for 30-60 minutes per day can have exceptional benefits for you and promote weight loss. “Oh, but I walk everyday from the parking lot to my work building, and I also get to walk around the building”, you may say.  Ok, be honest with yourself.  Are you REALLY getting enough daily?  Are you getting at least 30-60 minutes per day, everyday including weekends?  If you’re like most people, then probably not.  Most people just don’t get enough exercise throughout the day, even though they think they are.  Unless you’re a manager who’s job is to walk around all day, then walking around an office building doesn’t count.  Sorry.  You really have to make a conscious effort to go out daily get that time to yourself.  Maybe during your lunch break, or after work, you can take a nice walk in nature.  Enjoy the scenery while you’re at it.  You can’t ask yourself for anything more simpler than that!

For people who are more inclined to doing some form of exercise, then jogging, or sprinting can be one of the best ways to help you lose weight quick. This form of exercise for weight loss is more vigourous than walking, and takes more dedication, but the results will show for your hard work.  You can do this more intense form of cardio either outside on the streets, a track, treadmill, stairmaster, bike, stationary bike, skipping rope, and of course through an endurance sport.  Since this form of cardio is more vigourous than walking, then you can perform this 3 X per week instead of daily.  You will also need to recover from your workouts if they are fairly intense, so make sure not to overtrain.  Doing more is never necessarily better!  You want to be as effecient as possible.

Now the third form of exercise for weight loss is probably THE best thing you can do.  If you are looking to really take your weight loss to another level and you are a person who is extremely dedicated than this is for you.  I know you’re probably going to laugh, but it’s true! WEIGHT TRAINING! Yes you read that correctly.  The single best thing for weight loss, whether you are a man, a woman is weight training.  Actually, if I was stranded on an island, and I had only one thing I could do to lose weight, I would choose weight training because it promotes weight loss the quickest and more effecient ways you can ever imagine.  There are many scientific studies that prove this claim, and I’m not going to get too technical on you, but the main reason why it’s so effective is because you are building muscle.  Yes that’s right.  The more lean muscle you build, the greater amount of fat you will burn.  All the women may be thinking, “But I’ll get bulky! I can’t do that!”  I understand your concern, but that is a plain old MYTH.  The reason why you think you’ll get bulky is because you’ve seen all those magazines of women who look like they’re men with long hair.  You’ve been CONDITIONED to think that working out will make you bulkly.  Actually the truth is that the women you see in those magazines are on sterioids and other drugs.  They are in competition so they have to take all they can to have a slight advantage over the other competitors.  That’s just how the game work.  On the other  hand, those women who you see who have the ideal bodies you like, with flat stomach, and slightly toned arms, and very feminine, are also doing some form of weight lifting.  That’s their SECRET.  They have personal trainers that push them to lift weights and really make an extreme effort to give it their all.  They also do other types of high intensity training such as sprinting, and jogging.  But their main routine revolves around their weight training.

Now that you know which forms of exercise for weight loss there are, the question is, what is the best thing for you?  Just because I say that some forms of exercise may promote the greatest amount of results, doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the best thing for you at this time.  You may decide to do that later down the road, but at least make the effort to do one of these three things mentioned.  Whether you’re walking, running, or going full out intense with weight training, the main thing is that you are making progress every week and actually making an effort to do something about your weight.  Don’t be like the rest who never take any action…

Weight Loss Programs

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

There are many weight loss programs out there that claim they have the answer to all your problems. They say that if you follow their guidance step by step that you can lose weight even faster than you put it on. Most weight loss programs out there make big claims but show little results. They make it seem as though everyone is having incredible success by posting countless amount of testimonials on their pages. Although some of these programs may be legitimate, there are far too many that don’t even come close to living up to their claims. Most are HYPE. “Lose 20 lbs in 1 week”, some programs claim. Wow, that’s not just unrealistic, that’s out right unhealthy! If you lost 20 lbs in 1 weeks time, you must have done something seriously wrong to yourself. If you didn’t put on 20 lbs in one week, then don’t expect to lose 20 lbs in 1 week either. Give yourself some TIME!

So to continue, a lot of these weight loss programs just want your money. They are great at marketing and getting you into buying their products, but then when you get their product, you quickly realize that they don’t provide any real value. What’s even worse is that every day there are more companies being created that will further saturate an already value-deprived industry. This is why it is so important to actually do some quality research before actually purchasing someone’s product, book, or other information. Don’t buy impulsively just because you feel desperate. You will just end up wasting more time than if you did the research!

When buying any type of weight loss program online, you should look for certain factors. First of all, the author should have some sort of quality background and experience in the field. However, also know that it is not JUST about someone’s credentials. They may have the best credentials in the world, and yet produce low quality products which don’t deliver the results. This is why it is good to actually do a “google search”, for the author’s name and see if there are any negative comments about him/her. Go on a few forums and take a look at what some people have to say about the author. Also look to see if the author themselves have been on the forum to help other people and make quality posts which provide real value to the user. Look for any blogs that the author may have created to give out free information to people. Read the blog, and judge for yourself if it is quality or not. If you don’t know, then just take into consideration that they at least HAVE one and may help to build some trust between the author and you. There is also nothing wrong if the author is promoting their product, but if that’s all you see then they are probably just in it for the money. However, if you find that they post relevant information, that you can actually sit down and think about and apply, then they probably do really want to make a difference in your life. Also beware of some users on forums that just like to bash other people’s hard work. They most likely have never tried the weight loss program or product before, and are just creating a negative space for other people. Don’t just rely on one factor, but put all the pieces together yourself from evaluating all factors possible.

Secondly, look if the weight loss program has an “unconditional no questions asked money back guarantee”, even if it is just for 30 days (preferably 60 days). This way, you can give the product a fair trial, and if you don’t like the results, then you can ask the author for your money back. This protects you from any person that may have not your best interest at heart. Before buying any weight loss program, make sure to look for the money back guarantee!

Thirdly, read their website fully and see if their research is based on solid scientific studies and not just testimonials of people’s experience. You want to see if their program is backed by real evidence that proves to be effective. Look for solid facts on their website. Look for professionalism. This can help you decide if it is a well researched and written product.

Lastly, look for support. See if the author of the weight loss program is offering support, and if you can contact them whenever you have a question. Look to see if there is a support forum as well, as you can interact with the people who are like minded and have the same goals is you. Community is a very valuable asset, and can keep you motivated, as well as making friends. There is nothing like great support from the author, their support team, as well as community members!

Overall, put all the pros and cons side by side, and see if this product is worth trying for the next while. If it looks good, feels good to you, and other people think its good, then it probably is. In the end, YOU have to go through the process, and it is YOUR valuable time. You can easily buy any weight loss program you see on impulse, but you have to ask yourself the question: Is what I’m purchasing really worth it, or am I just falling for another hyped product? You be the judge!

Exercise To Lose Weight

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

For effective weight loss, one should also exercise to lose weight. There’s a method called HIIT (high intensity interval training), and doing this will enable you to truly make a difference in your appearance over the course of several weeks. The key to HIIT is to go with maximum intensity on a machine that is safe and can provide you with the necessary resistance. 3 machines, which are great, are the stationary bike, stairmaster, as well as the step stepper. You may also do the treadmill if you like. Make sure that you are comfortable with what you are doing at all times. If you are uncomfortable doing the cardio on the treadmill, then by all means choose a machine that will be most comfortable to you so you can safely do high intensity interval training. Also use the same machine from week to week, so that you can maintain consistency throughout the program. If you find that you would like to change it up, then do it after a cycle of training of approximately 6-8 weeks. Then you can switch the machine, and do the same thing for another 6-8 week cycle.

If you are new to this type of training, then start slowly, and increase the distance you run every time you go on the machine within the same 15-minute time frame. So say you ran one mile in 15 minutes in your last session. On your next session make it a goal to run slightly farther than your previous session. The key is to make progress every time you step on your chosen machine. Don’t make the mistake of trying to do too much too fast. Most people will burn out this way. As long as you are making slight improvements from session to session, and week to week, this will add up overtime, and you’ll find that in a few months your endurance and metabolism has increased tremendously. You WILL see a difference in weight loss if you stick to it. Always remember to exercise to lose weight, doing high intensity interval cardio, and make progress every week!
